Teaser Tuesday: The Lost Prince by Julie Kagawa

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
 • Open to a random page
 • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page

The Iron Prince (The Iron Fey: Call of the Forgotten, # 1) by Julie Kagawa

Don't look at Them. Never let Them know you can see Them. That is Ethan Chase's unbreakable rule. Until the fey he avoids at all costs—including his reputation—begin to disappear, and Ethan is attacked. Now he must change the rules to protect his family. To save a girl he never thought he'd dare to fall for… (click here for full summary)

I decided to share the first few lines so that there are no spoilers. The first line of this Iron Fey spin off reminded me of the first line of the Iron King and brought back some awesome memories! If I could I would re-read the series over and over again and never get tired of it. *Note: This is from the ARC so  quotes should be checked with the final copy of the book.

“ My name is Ethan Chase.
And I doubt I’ll live to see my eighteenth birthday.
That’s not me being dramatic; it just is. I just wish I hadn’t pulled so many people into this mess. They shouldn’t have to suffer because of me. Especially…her.

Teaser Tuesday (July 24)

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

Since I’m posting my review of A Midsummer’s Nightmare today I thought it would be fun to share a few favorite quotes from the book. Enjoy!

-“While I'm sure this is going to be a fascinating story,' I interrupted. 'I don't care. I'm having a major parental crisis that sort of outshines your little tantrum, and frankly it seems like my dad agrees with you. I have a party to get ready for, can we do this later?”-

-“Screw nightmares. I was waking up.”-

-“Anger was less painful than abandonment.”-

Teaser Tuesday: Spellbound

Title: Spellbound

Author: Cara Lynn Shultz

I wrote a review last week about how much I loved Spellbound and thought I’d share some non-spoiler teasers with you. To those of you who want to read it the book comes out this July. I’m planning on getting a paperback copy myself because I’d read the ARC as an eBook-file. Although I love reading eBooks there’s something different about the reader experience when you actually have the book in front of you. Plus it’s perfect for me to take out during free time at school.

So without further ado here are your two teasers. Enjoy!

Teaser # 1

I eyed the emergency exit and considered making a break for it.

“Don’t be stupid Emma,” I whispered to myself. “Just two more years of high school. It can’t be worse than living with Henry.”

Teaser # 2

And then he turned those striking green eyes on me.

Ashley was the first to notice. For all her exuberance, she kept her cool pretty impressively. For a minute.

“Oh.My.God.Brendan.Is.Staring.At.You.” She tried her hardest not to move her lips, but failed miserably.

Wow, this girl has absolutely no future as a ventriloquist.

✩Teaser Tuesday✩- Die For Me

DIE FOR ME is the first of three books about Kate, a sixteen-year-old American who moves to Paris after the death of her parents. She finds herself falling for Vincent, who she discovers is not the typical French teenager he appears: he is something else entirely. DIE FOR ME presents a new supernatural mythology presented in a city where dreams are sometimes the same as reality.

Teaser:
I studied the one who had first caught my attention. Although he was probably a couple of years older than me, I guessed he wasn’t yet twenty. He leaned back in his chair in that suave French man manner. But some thing slightly cold and hard about the set of his face suggested that the easy going pose was only a facade. It wasn’t that he looked cruel. It was more that he seemed. . . dangerous.

✩Teaser Tuesday✩ - Bumped

This week’s Teaser Tuesday is the dystopian novel, Bumped, by Megan McCafferty. It will be released on April 26th. The premise for this looks very original. :) Here's a book-flap summary:

When a virus makes everyone over the age of eighteen infertile, would-be parents are forced to pay teen girls to conceive and give birth to their children, making teens the most prized members of society. Girls sport fake baby bumps and the school cafeteria stocks folic-acid infused food.

Sixteen-year-old identical twins Melody and Harmony were separated at birth and have never met until the day Harmony shows up on Melody’s doorstep. Until now, the twins have followed completely opposite paths. Melody has scored an enviable conception contract with a couple called the Jaydens. While they are searching for the perfect partner for Melody to bump with, she is fighting her attraction to her best friend Zen, who is way too short for the job.

Harmony has spent her whole life in Goodside, a religious community, preparing to be a wife and mother. She believes her calling is to bring Melody back to Goodside and convince her that pregging for profit is a sin. But Harmony has secrets of her own that she is running from.

When Melody is finally matched with the world-famous, genetically flawless Jondoe, both girls’ lives are changed forever. A case of mistaken identity takes them on a journey neither could have ever imagined, one that makes Melody and Harmony realize they have so much more than just DNA in common.

From New York Times bestselling author Megan McCafferty comes a strikingly original look at friendship, love, and sisterhood—in a future that is eerily believable.

Teaser:
“I cringe from the inside out whenever she says that word. I can’t change the fact that Harmony is my identical twin, but I don’t know if I’ll ever call this stranger my sister.”

Teaser Tuesday: The Goddess Test

Title: The Goddess Test
Publisher: Harlequin Teen
Release date: April 26, 2011
Author: Aimee Carter

I’m currently reading an ARC of The Goddess Test by Aimee Carter and it has one of the most fascinating hooks I’ve read so far this year. I haven’t gotten very far but I have a feeling that this book will turn out to be one of my favorites!

It’s always been just Kate and her mom—and her mother is dying. Her last wish? To move back to her childhood home. So Kate’s going to start at a new school with no friends, no other family and the fear her mother won’t live past the fall.
Then she meets Henry. Dark. Tortured. And mesmerizing. He claims to be Hades, god of the Underworld—and if she accepts his bargain, he’ll keep her mother alive while Kate tries to pass seven tests.
Kate is sure he’s crazy—until she sees him bring a girl back from the dead. Now saving her mother seems crazily possible. If she succeeds, she’ll become Henry’s future bride, and a goddess.
 If she fails...

-Teaser-

“The prize is immortality,” Henry said. “It’s not something we give out lightly, and we need to make sure it is something you can handle.”

I felt a cold block of ice form in the pit of my stomach. So my choices now were to live forever or die trying. Somehow it didn’t seem fair.

“You will do well,” Henry said. “I can feel it. And afterward, you will help me do something that no one else is capable of doing. You will have power beyond imagining, and you will never fear death again. You will never grow old and you will always be beautiful. You will have eternal life to spend as you wish.” But would I have my mother?

Teaser Tuesday: Intrinsical

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by Miz B of Should Be Reading and asks you to:

• Grab your current read
• Share 2 teasers
• Don’t include any spoilers
• Include the title and author

This week’s teaser Tuesday is from Intrinsical by Lani Woodland.

Sixteen-year-old Yara Silva has always known that ghosts walk alongside the living. Her grandma, like the other females in her family, is a Waker, someone who can see and communicate with ghosts. Yara grew up watching her grandmother taunted and scorned for this unusual ability and doesn't want that to be her future. She has been dreading the day when she too would see ghosts, and is relieved that the usually dominant Waker gene seems to have skipped her, letting her live a normal teenage life. However, all that changes for Yara on her first day at her elite boarding school when she discovers the gene was only lying dormant. She witnesses a dark mist attack Brent, a handsome fellow student, and rushes to his rescue. Her act of heroism draws the mist's attention, and the dark spirit begins stalking her. Yara finds herself entrenched in a sixty-year-old curse that haunts the school, threatening not only her life, but the lives of her closest friends as well. Yara soon realizes that the past she was trying to put behind her isn't going to go quietly.

So far I've really been enjoying this read. I haven't read a good ghost story in quite awhile so I was excited to get started on this one. Enjoy these two quotes! :)

Quote 1-

I knew there were people around me, that someone was recording the whole thing on their phone. I was even aware of some of them trying to get our attention, but I couldn’t make out anything they said. I didn’t care about any of it; all that mattered was that he was alive.

Quote 2-

Brent made a sound that was a mixture of coughing and clearing his throat. “Are you serious?" The corners of his mouth drooped slightly.“You don’t believe the stories about ghosts and curses, do you?”

The black mist from yesterday flashed in my mind. I swallowed before answering, choosing my words carefully. “Of course I don't believe in curses,” I said, with a hasty wave of my hand.

✩Teaser Tuesday- It’s Not Summer Without You✩

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by Miz B of Should Be Reading and asks you to:

• Grab your current read

• Share 2 teasers

• Don’t include any spoilers

• Include the title and author

This week I’m reading It’s Not Summer Without You by Jenny Han. I’m reading a book set in the summer in the hopes that it’ll distract me from the numbing coldness that is the New England winter. It is the second book in the series; the first one is called The Summer I Turned Pretty. This series is one of my favorite contemporary YA books. So without further ado here are the teasers, enjoy!

Teaser #1

Sometimes I closed my eyes and in my head, I said over and over again, It isn’t true , it isn’t true , this isn’t real . This wasn’t my life. But it was my life; it was my life now.

Teaser # 2

There are moments in life that you wish with all your heart you could take back. Like, just erase from existence. Like, if you could, you’d erase yourself right out of existence too, just to make that moment not exist.
What I said next was one of those moments for me.

Teaser Tuesday: The Haunted

Currently Reading: The Haunted by Jessica Verday

After a summer spent reclaiming her sanity and trying to forget the boy she fell in love with by the bridge where her best friend drowned - the boy who must not exist, cannot exist, because she knows that he is dead - Abbey returns to Sleepy Hollow, determined to leave the ghosts of her past behind. She throws herself into schoolwork, perfume-making and her friendship with Ben, her cute and funny lab partner, who just might be able to help her get over Caspian once and for all. But Abbey is never going to truly be able to move on from Caspian and Caspian has no choice but to return to her side: for Caspian is a Shade and Abbey is his destiny. The two are tied not only to each other, but also to the town of Sleepy Hollow and the famous legend that binds their fates - a legend whose true ending and dark truths they are only just beginning to guess...

Enjoy these two quotes! I really like the book so far, even though the first book in the series wasn’t as enthralling.

Quote # 1:

I don’t know why I did that, but his eyes looked strange. Wild. My stomach fluttered. What was he going to…do?

Quote # 2:

“I was not drunk,” she sputtered, “I only had a couple of sips—not enough to do any damage.”

“Could have fooled me,” I mumbled.

Also, I started a blog just for Nanowrimo this year. It’ll be most active during the month of November, but stop by to vote on the poll if you can. :)
