On
the run from her mind-controlling father, the infamously invisible Fiona
McClean hides in a small town, hoping to finally rid herself of the crime world
she has always known. But playing at “normal life” with a mother she hates, a
brother she can’t trust, and a boy she can’t stand proves more difficult than
she ever imagined. Soon her father is hot on her heels, and it’s up to Fiona to
protect not only her family, but the friends who’ve taught her that life
doesn’t have to be as lonely and cruel as she thought.
Okay, so I admit the cover is a bit confusing, but I think that was the effect that they were going for. They wanted it to look confusing. The MC Fiona is trying to get away from her dangerous father to protect her family and herself, so I suspect she probably wants to stay hidden? I mean if she's decked out in fancy dresses like in all the other YA covers how are readers supposed to tell she's "lonely" and has a crazy father "hot on her heels"? The dresses practically scream "Look at me! I'm so pretty and want to be looked at." while this cover translates into someone wanting melt into or disappear altogether from her surroundings
I can't wait to see what this book has in store for us! I really think this is going to be amazing.
