Waiting On Wednesday [18]

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. It features novels that readers are eagerly anticipating the release of.

MISTWALKER
by Saudra Mitchell
Hardcover, 272 pages
Expected publication: February 4th, 2014
Publisher: Harcourt Children's Books

When Willa Dixon’s brother dies on the family lobster boat, her father forbids Willa from stepping foot on the deck again. With her family suffering, she’ll do anything to help out—even visiting the Grey Man.

Everyone in her small Maine town knows of this legendary spirit who haunts the lighthouse, controlling the fog and the fate of any vessel within his reach. But what Willa finds in the lighthouse isn’t a spirit at all, but a young man trapped inside until he collects one thousand souls.

Desperate to escape his cursed existence, Grey tries to seduce Willa to take his place. With her life on land in shambles, will she sacrifice herself?

This cover is brilliant!  I love how the girl is looking at the lighthouse, and how it's not just a random image but actually has something to do with the story line. Mistwalker doesn't come out until 2014...and right about now that seems like an eternity of waiting. Lol, I feel like it just turned 2013 and they're already marketing books that we probably won't see for another year. This story sounds so creepy and cool at the same time. I keep wondering who this grey man is. Hopefully the wait to read Mistwalker won't be as long as it seems!

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. It features novels that readers are eagerly anticipating the release of.

ACID
by Shannon Messenger
Paperback, 431 pages
Expected publication: April 5th, 2013
Publisher: Random House Children's Publishing

ACID - the most brutal police force in history.
They rule with an iron fist.
They see everything. They know everything.
They locked me away for life.

My crime?
They say I murdered my parents.
I was fifteen years old.

My name is Jenna Strong.

I love how fierce the girl looks on the cover of ACID! Haha, it looks like she's walking through black / red acid rain and she's staring down her enemy. This one is definitely getting tagged for one of the books I might read for the Feminist Reads Challenge

Waiting On Wednesday [16]

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. It features novels that readers are eagerly anticipating the release of.

by Josin McQuein
Hardcover, pages unknown
Expected publication: October 1st, 2013
Publisher: Delacorte Books For Young Readers

A week ago, Dinah’s cousin Claire cut her wrists.

Five days ago, Dinah found Claire’s diary and discovered why.

Three days ago, Dinah stopped crying and came up with a plan.

Two days ago, she ditched her piercings and bleached the black dye from her hair.

Yesterday, knee socks and uniform plaid became a predator’s camouflage.

Today, she’ll find the boy who broke Claire.

By tomorrow, he’ll wish he were dead.

It's been way too long since I've read a good mystery / thriller / psychological novel so I'm pretty excited about this one.  Plus, the cover's pretty cool to look at! I am a little confused about the summary. What happened to Claire? To me it sounds as though Dinah is going to take revenge for Claire (assuming something horrible happened to her). So then Dinah probably goes to this ultra-preppy private school (wearing plaid and dying hair blond?) to go find the guy who messed up Claire's life.  So I'm guessing she either kills him or falls in love with him....? I guess I'll just have to wait until October to find out. :)

Waiting On Wednesday [15]

Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. It features novels that readers are eagerly anticipating the release of.

by Shannon Messenger
Hardcover, 416 pages
Expected publication: March 5th, 2013
Publisher: Simon Pulse

Seventeen-year-old Vane Weston has no idea how he survived the category five tornado that killed his parents. And he has no idea if the beautiful, dark-haired girl who’s swept through his dreams every night since the storm is real. But he hopes she is. Seventeen-year-old Audra is a sylph, an air elemental. She walks on the wind, can translate its alluring songs, and can even coax it into a weapon with a simple string of commands. She’s also a guardian—Vane’s guardian—and has sworn an oath to protect Vane at all costs. Even if it means sacrificing her own life...

Between the characters interesting names "Vane and "Audra", the whole guardian concept and the gorgeous cover I know this one will definitely be high on my list of 2013 books I'm really *really really* looking forward to. Also, I've followed Shannon's blog for years so I trust her to deliver something really amazing. Can't wait to read this in March!

Waiting On Wednesday (14)

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine.

(Blood of Eden #2)
by Julie Kagawa
Hardcover, 384 pages
Expected publication: April 22, 2013
Publisher: Harlequin Teen

Allison Sekemoto has vowed to rescue her creator, Kanin, who is being held hostage and tortured by the psychotic vampire Sarren. The call of blood leads her back to the beginning—New Covington and the Fringe, and a vampire prince who wants her dead yet may become her wary ally. Even as Allie faces shocking revelations and heartbreak like she’s never known, a new strain of the Red Lung virus that decimated humanity is rising to threaten human and vampire alike.

I am so relieved about the cover of this book! Honestly, I was really really annoyed when they white-washed Allie on the cover of THE IMMORTAL RULES. I'm glad that the publisher took the reader's thoughts into consideration when they created this and didn't change the race of the protagonist again--it honestly confused the heck out of me because I had no clue who the girl on the cover was supposed to be.  At first glance this cover looks pretty plain, but I LOVE the electric blue and the details with the branches. I am desperately waiting for THE ETERNITY CURE's release so I can finally figure out what's up between Allie and Kanin. I actually prefer him to the other dude. :)

Waiting On Wednesday 12/12/12

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine.

Mind Games
by Kiersten White
Hardcover, 304 pages
Expected publication: February 19, 2013
Fia was born with flawless instincts. Her first impulse, her gut feeling, is always exactly right. Her sister, Annie, is blind to the world around her—except when her mind is gripped by strange visions of the future.

Trapped in a school that uses girls with extraordinary powers as tools for corporate espionage, Annie and Fia are forced to choose over and over between using their abilities in twisted, unthinkable ways… or risking each other’s lives by refusing to obey.

In a stunning departure from her New York Times bestselling Paranormalcy trilogy, Kiersten White delivers a slick, edgy, heartstoppingly intense psychological thriller about two sisters determined to protect each other—no matter the cost.

Waiting on Wednesday (12)

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine.

Transparent
by Natalie Whipple
Paperback, 352 Pages
Expected Publication: May 21st  2013
Publisher: HarperTeen

On the run from her mind-controlling father, the infamously invisible Fiona McClean hides in a small town, hoping to finally rid herself of the crime world she has always known. But playing at “normal life” with a mother she hates, a brother she can’t trust, and a boy she can’t stand proves more difficult than she ever imagined. Soon her father is hot on her heels, and it’s up to Fiona to protect not only her family, but the friends who’ve taught her that life doesn’t have to be as lonely and cruel as she thought.

Okay, so I admit the cover is a bit confusing, but I think that was the effect that they were going for. They wanted it to look confusing.  The MC Fiona is trying to get away from her dangerous father to protect her family and herself, so I suspect she probably wants to stay hidden? I mean if she's decked out in fancy dresses like in all the other YA covers how are readers supposed to tell she's "lonely" and has a crazy father "hot on her heels"? The dresses practically scream "Look at me! I'm so pretty and want to be looked at." while this cover translates into someone wanting melt into or disappear altogether from her surroundings

I can't wait to see what this book has in store for us! I really think this is going to be amazing.

EVERY NEVER AFTER by Lesley Livingston
Release Date: March 12th, 2013
It's happening again! Despite their vow to each other at the end of Once Every Never, best friends Clare and Allie once more find themselves in trouble—and travelling in time. Indulging in a low-key vacation at Glastonbury Tor, taking part in an archaeological dig while soaking up the sights of summertime England, the girls have promised each other: no time travel shenanigans; no involvement with dangerous Druids or villainous museum thieves; and definitely no weirdness about the fact that Clare is now seriously dating Milo, Allie's super-genius hottie cousin!

Are you not getting some serious pretty cover vibes from this book? I actually haven’t heard of this series at all until very recently. I think I’ll give it a shot at one point in the future. I love the creative titles and the awesome covers!

Title: A L T E R E D by Jennifer Rush
Release date: January 2nd, 2013
Publisher: Little, Brown & Co
Pages: 336
When you can’t trust yourself, who can you believe? Everything about Anna’s life is a secret. Her father works for the Branch at the helm of its latest project: monitoring and administering treatments to the four genetically altered boys in the lab below their farmhouse. There’s Nick, Cas, Trev . . . and Sam, who’s stolen Anna’s heart. When the Branch decides it’s time to take the boys, Sam stages an escape, killing the agents sent to retrieve them. Anna is torn between following Sam or staying behind in the safety of her everyday life. But her father pushes her to flee, making Sam promise to keep her away from the Branch, at all costs. There’s just one problem. Sam and the boys don’t remember anything before living in the lab—not even their true identities.
This book is one of my top reading choices for 2013 releases, which is pretty awesome because January isn't that much far away and I’m not sure how I could have waited any longer. Hopefully ALTERED brings something both unique and enjoyable to the YA genre table.

Waiting On Wednesday (8)

"Waiting On Wednesday" is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

B E T A by Rachel Cohn

Release Date: October 16th, 2012
Publisher: Disney Hyperion
Pages: 304 | ISBN: 1423157192

In a world constructed to absolute perfection, imperfection is difficult to understand—and impossible to hide.
Elysia is a clone, created in a laboratory, born as a sixteen year old girl, an empty vessel with no life experience to draw from. She is a Beta, an experimental model of teenaged clone. She was replicated from another teenage girl, who had to die in order for Elysia to be created.

Elysia's purpose is to serve the inhabitants of Demesne, an island paradise for the wealthiest people on earth. Everything about Demesne is bioengineered for perfection. Even the air there induces a strange, euphoric high that only the island's workers—soulless clones like Elysia—are immune to.

It wasn't until I read the summary of Beta that I realized I have not read a book about a clone before. I've seen it on TV tons of times but never in a book. The balance of colors on this cover is beautiful. Even though I have not read a book about clones yet the plot does sound a bit familiar. Let's hope this brings something new to the YA dystopian genre. :)

Waiting On Wednesday (7)

"Waiting On Wednesday" is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

A U R A C L E by Gina Rosati
Release Date: August 7th, 2012
Publisher: Roaring Books Press
Pages: 304 | ISBN: 1596437103

16 year old Anna Rogan has a secret she's only shared with her best friend, Rei; she can astrally project out of her body, allowing her spirit to explore the world and the far reaches of the universe. When there's a fatal accident and her classmate Taylor takes over Anna's body, what was an exhilarating distraction from her repressive home life threatens to become a permanent state. Faced with a future trapped in another dimension, Anna turns to Rei for help. Now the two of them must find a way to get Anna back into her body and stop Taylor from accusing an innocent friend of murder. Together Anna and Rei form a plan but it doesn't take into account the deeper feelings that are beginning to grow between them.

I absolutely LOVE the cover for Auracle! I try not to judge books by them, especially recently where I've come across WAY TOO many bad books with beautiful covers, but reading the summary gave me hope that this wasn't just a pretty face. This one could possibly be a ultra-rare GOOD book with a GORGEOUS cover.
