NEW MEME: Bookish Music Monday [1]

Bookish Music Monday is a weekly meme hosted by me. Find a song that has lyrics or a music video that reminds you of a book.
BMM Song [1] : Promises by Nero

What’s happening in the video? Christian says... “It's a dystopian futuristic society where the government gives their citizens pills that basically lower their brain levels to the point where they can't love. However, this one girl and guy decide to rebel and not take the pills. Near the middle of the video where she sorta is "spazzing" she is really dancing and expressing herself compared the rest of the people. The two fall in love but get found out and are pulled away from each other.”
What does it remind me of?
The plot for this music video immediately reminds me of Delirium by Lauren Oliver. It’s in a dystopian setting where the government takes away the ability to love. The people who have “the cure” or in this case the pills, are lifeless people controlled easily by the government and pale in comparison to those who still experience unhampered emotions.
What do you guys think? Does the song Promises also remind you of a book youve read?

♪ Romance Plots in Dystopian Novels ♫

I feel like Rihanna's song "We Found Love" sums up the romance plot of every dystopian novel I've ever read.

Here are some of the lyrics:

Yellow diamonds in the light
And we're standing side by side
As your shadow crosses mine
What it takes to come alive
It's the way I’m feeling I just can't deny
But I've gotta let it go
We found love in a hopeless place ( Repeats 5 times)
Love and life I will divide
Turn away cause I need you more
Feel the heartbeat in my mind

I was particularily thinking of Juliette and Adam from SHATTER ME sitting in that dark prison cell together. They found love in a "hopeless place" and they're sitting "side by side".

"Turn away cause I need you more" could mean that Juliette is afraid of touching Adam because she knows her touch is lethal and she doesn't want to kill him. She tells him to turn away because she might accidently slip and touch him--causing his death--which is a big no no. ;)
What dystopian novel do you think of when you hear this song?

♪ Music Monday- The Listening ♫

Music Mondays are when I post the music I listen to while I write. In the poll (at the bottom) I realized that a lot of you also write while listening to music. If anyone has a song that works really well for them when they’re writing please share it. I’d love to try out some new writing music.

The song for this week is The Listening by Lights.

This is the last post of the month. Can you believe tomorrow’s already February? I’m almost at 100 followers which means I’m going to have an 100th follower giveaway soon. Check in sometime around next week for a chance to win something awesome. :)

♪Writing to Music♫

In a poll I asked you “Do You Listen To Music While You Write?” The responses were interesting, and not what I was expecting.

14 of you said “Yes! All the time”

3 of you said “No, it’s distracting”

15 of you said “sometimes”

And 1 said “Once in a blue moon”

My answer would be sometimes. Sometimes it’s easier for me to touch the creative side of my brain when I’m listening to music, other times silence does the trick. Some of my best writing I do when I’m listening to music. Once I get into a trance my brain takes over my hands I can type for long periods of time without stopping. Even though I absolutely love writing to music I try not to do it too much because I wouldn’t want to feel like I can’t write without it.

As for what types of songs I listen to—all kinds. I have everything from classical to rock. It just has to be catchy enough for me to get me into the zone.

What songs do you listen to when you write? Do you stick to just one type, or are you like me and listen to all kinds? I know when I first started to listen to music while writing the only thing I would listen to was classical. It started when I was listening to the Pride and Prejudice soundtrack when I suddenly had an uncontrollable urge to write down an idea that struck me. Once I started I didn’t stop until 2 whole hours later. It was a-ma-zing! ;)

Here's the link to one of the songs from the sountrack. It’s called “Your Hands Are Cold”.

This one is my current favorite: Moonlight by Yiruma

Enjoy the song! :)
